Reflection:
In presenting for the VT Sociology Department Conference on March 20, 2014, I took the time to make sure that my objectives were well articulated. This was designed in a way to underscore topics and allow key points to be building blocks toward the desired argument. All in all, I think it was a success. I created models that both displayed historically significant facts, while at the same time creating a conceptual framework for theory construction. This is the beginning of my theory building in my dissertation research, which attempts to extract theory from the history of Pan-Africanism in Belize, and re-apply it as a model and praxis.
One of the most important things for me with this particular project is to make it accessible and not too theory laden as to where it will not make sense for practitioners. As such, models and history is privileged, over theoretical and abstract concepts.
