Reflection:
Dr. Onwubiko Agozino notes that scholars can be both committed and objective in their intellectual pursuits. Agozino makes the point that we can pursue our passions, while still adhering to rigorous academic standards. While Dr. Barbara Ellen Smith notes that the road is a little more dreary, given that, as Dr. Gillman points out, there are no points given to scholars on promotion and tenure committees for engaged work, Dr. Copeland points out that bridging the two is the most rewarding work those in academia can pursue.
As a scholar in Africana Studies, I am charged to engage engage in activist-scholar work and their cumulative narrative underscores my commitment.
